Dictionary 4 Life

Dictionary 4 Life is a stand alone Rotary project associated with the Rotary Club of Battersea, Brixton and Clapham in England and  Usborne Publishing Ltd.  The project provides free of charge, dictionaries to kids around the world with the understanding that children will have a better life by reading the dictionary.  Literacy is one of Rotary causes.  A widened vocabulary increases opportunities for a better life for everyone.  A dictionary provides that opportunity.
The first D 4 L was given to some 45,000 10 year olds in 2007-08.

How Eganville Rotary Became involved:

In April 2016, Eganville Rotary invited all Ottawa  Valley Clubs to a presentation by Linda Flynn , District 7040 Literacy Chair.  Her home club, the Rotary Club of West Ottawa,  handles the ordering of and distribution of the Usborne Dictionaries to interested rotary clubs.  After listening to Linda's presentation Eganville Rotary got involved.  After getting the support of both elementary schools in Eganville, sufficient Dictionary 4 Life books were ordered for all Grade 3 students to be enrolled in the 2017-18 school year.  The books were picked up from Ottawa by Rotarians from Eganville and presented to the students in the first part of October 2017.  The project was an overwhelming success in Eganville.  It was enthusiastically  received by students and educators alike.  Eganville Rotary hopes to continue this valuable project in the coming years.
