Eganville Rotary’s COVID-19 Response.                                                                              June 13th 2020

The new norm for Eganville Rotary has been Zoom meetings with no chance of fundraising in the community.  The community, acknowledging Rotary’s positive efforts in our community, has spontaneously made donations ‘for the good of Rotary’ These donations have been put to work in our community! Since the middle of March almost $4000 has been directed to help our vulnerable community neighbours through the COVID-19 hardship.  Almost $2000 has been sent to safe guard our Siloam Project in Kenya as they deal with the pandemic with far less resources available than here in Canada. Meanwhile the Rotary spirit of helping keeps moving through…

On June 12th we had a very successful blood donor clinic with 60 units of blood collected. Picture are Rotarians Ed & Lorna Byers with Heather and Glen Bingham from the Golden Lake Property Owner Assoc.  Pictured with in the chair Brad Boehringer - Paramedic

At the end of May, three Opeongo High School students were sponsored to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program.  Due to the pandemic restrictions, the program was done on-line.  These smart young people were our 2020 sponsored students: Future leaders: Kylie, Mackenzie and Cooper

We are considering making this an annual part of our Siloam School Project! Alan Fox, our International Service Chair says "This award celebrates success in a community where there is little to celebrate. It demonstrates that children from the Mukuru community of Nairobi can compete with the best and brightest across the nation" [Kenya] Last years recipients received a certificate, a small personal gift and some funding towards their high school tuition costs. That sponsorship was done through private donors wanting to ' pay it forward'
